During the plenary session Jennifer emphasized the importance of AI in criminal investigations in order to get ahead of threats and detect radicalization. Additionally, Jennifer described different challenges we face to detect indicators using AI before reaching terrorist attacks. The conference was a vital opportunity for high-profile experts from diverse background of disciplines to establish professional relationships and served as a platform for the formation of international cooperation.
Over 1,400 top decision-makers, defense, intelligence and police officials, prominent academic scholars and security industry leaders from over 65 countries took part in the world summit on counter-terrorism.
During this year’s conference, there was also a presentation of the Red Alert project, a project Insikt Intelligence is part of, and with high importance within the team, funded by the European Commission. Red Alert is a Real-time Early Detection and Alert System for Online Terrorist Content based on Natural Language Processing, Social Network Analysis, Artificial Intelligence and Complex Event Processing which is meant to provide early detection of terrorist activities, to analyze, monitor or take action on online terrorist content. The solution will cover a wide range of social media platforms, including new channels such as Telegram and Periscope which are becoming increasingly active within the terror community to both recruit and spread propaganda.
Following the conference, an exclusive group attended the off-site training weekend. Insikt Intelligence’s core team: Jennifer Woodard (CEO), Guillem Garcia (COO) and Dr. Berta Biescas (Data Scientist) presented a 3-hour training session on Terrorism, Social Media & Data Science in an intimate, closed forum with high-ranking military, government, and homeland security officials. During this course topics such as: CHALLENGES , TRENDS, and METHODS to Detect Radical Content and also examples of APPLICATION for NATIONAL SECURITY were discussed.
All in all, the conference and training were a great success for the team and served as a unique platform for high-level discussions on counter-terrorism with top decision-makers, experts and advisors from all around the world.
